This handsome Saint Bernard head study features the barrel around the neck that popular culture has come to associate with the breed. A long history as a rescue dog, the barrel comes from a 19th century painting featuring the brandy barrel around the dog’s neck. Although the Saint Bernard probably never actually carried these, the image has long been associated with the breed. Michael Steddum has carried the tradition on in this beautiful print.
